Abstract

During recent years the desert traveller Carlo Bergmann has found a new rock art province and many archaeological sites west of Dakhla in Egypt. They include a Pharaonic desert station from the time of Cheops and a donkey trail from Dakhla to Gilf Kebir. The rock art consists mainly of petroglyphs. It is executed in several styles. Some of the styles are also represented east of Dakhla or in other areas. One type of the petroglyphs, apparent pictures of women, is presented here.
