Iran
Abstract
This first and preliminary report of the rock art of Iranian Kurdistan describes briefly the petroglyph corpora of five regions the author has identified and studied. The province is shown to be rich in rock art, which occurs at open sites as well as in caves. Its possible antiquity is briefly considered in the context of the archaeological wealth of the mountainous province, and hazards to its preservation are mentioned.
