Abstract

The author proposes a methodological approach for dealing with rock art from a spatial perspective. In order to do so, he appeals to D. Clarke’s three basic analytic levels — micro, semi-micro and macro — which in the case of rock art correspond to the rock, the site and the locality, respectively. For each, different spatial relations are established between designs, the rock and space, as well as interpretive implications for each of these syntaxes.
