Abstract

The locus of senses and intellect, the human body is both the maker of symbolic and ritual patterns and part of these symbols and rituals. Focusing on hand prints and footprints in rock art, their aesthetic and ritual significance, this paper examines the mutual penetrability of the human hand and feet and the human intellect. It examines the sensible and gestural as a condition of the possibility of the cognitive and the presence of the cognitive in the gestural.
